It often takes a lot of work and courage to start therapy as a couple.
Sometimes people have been stuck in a situation for some time and it can feel overwhelming.
The good news is that when you are both ready to start, it can be a great pivot for the relationship to thrive.
Dedicated time to focus on your connection and patterns.
The first session will open with a big-picture discussion on what is bringing you to therapy. We might not go into all the details as I get to know your dynamic.
We will leave with a general plan and idea of what to work on.
This can include:
identified patterns of interactions
early assessment of patterns from childhood or family influence
specific skills to start implementing now
We return to therapy at your preference - whether that is multiple times a week or every other week. Sessions will open up on talking about the prior week and focusing on moments the ineffective relationship patterns have shown up.
Sometimes we focus on one person more than the other; this is okay because while they speak, the other person really gets to let go, listen and give attention.
We might process emotional traumas, practice skills, or tell stories about the relationship history. All of it is in the name of building ways of connecting.

Every relationship therapy session is 75 minutes. This gives us enough time for each person to share and time to process for change.

Conducting relationship therapy involves paying attention to each person and the relationship. It involves specialized training that incorporates assessing patterns of behaviors and traumas, as applicable, for each person.
It is an investment for your relationship, which may help heal and years of pain and, we hope, prevent further erosion or ending of a relationship.

This will depend. It could be that we meet one to two times for an assessment and feedback then you all decide how to move forward.
We could meet an additional four to five sessions to begin the work and start processing. We check in together on progress and decide how to move forward.
We determine on a case-by-case basis how you want to continue, whether that is weekly or biweekly.

If you are in a situation that involves domestic violence then we would want you to seek safety before starting therapy.
